Vocalist Vagan Aden of Barton Fink recently sat down with Suite101.com to talk about their musical goals, finding their own voice, and making "trash-pop."

Suite101.com recently interviewed vocalist Vagan Aden from the band Barton Fink.

Interesting "Trash Pop"

Vocalist Vagan Aden of the band Barton Fink describes their music as interesting and fun with a hope to become, according to Aden, one of the most interesting trash pop bands in the world in the near future.

Aden, who has been playing music for at least ten years joined the band Barton Fink four years ago. Aden admits despite having several bands in the past the hardest thing about being in a band is keeping the band together.

"It was hard to find to find serious people to play music with, but right now I couldn't be happier, this band is strong," Aden said.

The Message Is Groove

The most important thing according to Aden though is making music that makes people happy, and according to Aden, Barton Fink's message is grooving.

"The message is groove, get some groove into your life and everything will work out fine," Aden says adding "love one another and enjoy everything you have at your disposal. Enjoy yourself while you're alive and don't take anything forgranted," Aden said.

Aden feels that this message is conveyed through Barton Fink's music, and that people who attend their shows feel the same way when they are in the audience or when they meet the band.

"We are very grateful for that," Aden said.

Having Your Own Voice

Getting their name from the 1994 Coen Brother's film with the same name the band Barton Fink focuses mostly on entertaining versus conforming into music industry standards. Aden says that the reason the band feels comfortable promoting themselves on websites such as Myspace.com is because as of right now, according to Aden, the music industry is at a place where no one knows what works.

"We are just happy people have a place (where people can) check us out" Aden states about Myspace "That's the most important thing for us right now, especially for a band like ours who want to make the music we want without compromising," Aden says.

Basing most of his music on either personal experiences or by improvising and playing a certain character Aden says that the band is just trying to find their own voice. It is Barton Fink's goal to play live music without having any pre-concieved notions of what they are "suppose to sound like" or without any rules to follow.

For Aden this means finding your own voice. "To do something really good you need to find your own voice through anything, guitar, drums, etc. We just want to be understood and there is no better way to be understood then to find your own voice."

Love Em' Or Hate Em'

Right now Barton Fink's main goal while making music is just to play live, and loud, and gain an audience doing so. Aden says they want people to fall in love with the music, most of the time this results in people either loving them or hating them.

"My goal has always been to make the most insane music, so that will never change" Aden says adding "Someone's gotta do it!"
