Chester French gains a following for their pop music via MySpace, Entourage and word of mouth.
Featuring a song on a hit television show can quickly make that song a hit. Suddenly, viewers ask, “Who sings this song?” When Grey’s Anatomy played Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” in pivotal moments of its second season finale, the song was played all summer long. Now there’s a song for summer 2007…
As the end credits rolled after the season four opener of HBO’s Entourage, a catchy song played. It was difficult to tell whether the music was contemporary or plucked from the 1960s (Entourage often uses older tunes, especially over the credits). A quick search on the Internet revealed that the song, “She Loves Everybody” is as of-the-moment as they come.
The band is Chester French, and according to the comments on their MySpace page, the Entourage plug garnered them many new fans.
To give credit where its due, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton featured Chester French on his blog before Entourage featured “She Loves Everbody” on the show.
Though their music has a slight ‘60s London vibe, their page lists their location as Cambridge Massachusetts – the band’s duo, Maxwell Drummey and D.A. Wallach, are 21-year-old Harvard University graduates (as of June 2007.) According to Arjanwrites.com, a music blog with several entries about Chester French, Drummey studied social anthropology and Wallach was an African-American studies major
Their full-length album is to be titled “Love the Future” and is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2008 released. They signed to hip-hop artist Pharrell Williams’s label, Star Trak. Currently their music is available to listen on their MySpace page or to purchase on iTunes.
As of July 3, 2007, their MySpace page listed almost 70,000 page views. They list updates of their press, such as a recent feature on Entertainment Weekly’s PopWatch blog.
Their sound is a blend of retro fun pop, chatty lyrics and moody music. “She Loves Everybody” would fit well in a mystery film – a mix of mystery and sultriness.
One of their songs frequently available for download on the Internet is “The Jimmy Choos”, though it doesn’t have quite the same catchiness as “She Loves Everybody”, which is the type of song that can be played repeatedly without overstaying its welcome.
With their growing fan base, Chester French are poised for major break-out stardom – will their full-length album be as addicting to listen to as their singles? Only time will tell. But for now, thousands of happy listeners will continue to play their tunes in any way they can, such as bookmarking their MySpace page.
