On Monday April 28, 2008 Jason Mraz, accompanied by magician Justin Kredible and musical guests the Makepeace Brothers and Bushwalla, presented stellar performances to a boisterous crowd at Montreal’s Metropolis, as part of their Music, Magic & Make Peace Tour.
The night’s host was Justin Kredible who charmed the audience with his great sense of humour and astounding magic tricks. A regular correspondent on the Rachel Ray show he began performing at the age of twelve in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. From mastering card tricks to making objects mysteriously vanish the young magician (whose real name is Justin Willman) has garnered a strong fan base in college campuses around the United States and was awarded the title of “Entertainer of the Year 2008” by Campus Activities Magazine.
Influenced by the music of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel, the Makepeace Brothers combine folk rock, bluegrass, roots music and acoustic sounds to their melodies. Brothers Finian and Ciaran are joined on stage by their good friend and bassist Conor Gaffney and let their eager audience discover their beautiful compositions, such as “Lovely” and “Hero”, which was dedicated last night to their Canadian fans to applaud Canada's efforts to promote peace internationally.
Hilarious, spontaneous, and very energetic, Bushwalla’s music is a mixture of hip hop, funk, rock and soul. With his “1-2-3 Band” the eclectic performer captivated the audience with songs like “Gangster”, “Tiger Spots” and the infectious hit “Ghetto Blaster” who left the crowd wanting more. Quite the overall entertainer Bushwalla even surprised the audience with his juggling skills and his impressive ability to hold his guitar upright with his mouth.
Disguised as a moustachioed keyboardist in Bushwalla’s “1-2-3 Band”, Jason Mraz mysteriously emerged from Justin Kredible’s magical tent to woo his admiring fans. He interpreted audience favourites, such as “The Remedy” and the new single “I’m Yours” with a new twist by sampling verses from Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”. The exquisite “Bella Luna” enchanted the Metropolis as the singer requested the crowd to light up their cellphones, replicating the ambience of a starry sky. With the talented Toca by his side, a powerful brass trio, and his melodious guitar, Jason Mraz created an intimate and unique vibe between his loving fans despite a full house.
