British Pop Sensation Lily Allen goes on MTV's Innaugural Discover & Download Tour to take her brand of honest songwriting and cheeky lyrics to soon-to-be American fans.

She's got wit, she's got attitude, and she's got free audio downloads available at music.MTV.com. Fans can download the Lily Allen podcast to find out what makes her tick and watch her videos. MTV really gets it by giving fans a multimedia get-to-know-you cocktail party online with Allen. Her song Smile was the Free Download Single of the Week on iTunes back in November. What makes her even more appealing is her attitude - in her native Britain they call it "cheeky." And who doesn't like a chick singer with a smart mouth? She's touring right now on MTV's Discover & Download Tour as the first ever artist to hold the honor.

People Love Her!

"Lily is not your typical 'cookie cutter' pop star. She's not afraid to speak her mind through her lyrics..." said Amy Doyle, SVP, Music and Talent, MTV. "She's sassy, witty, opinionated and most importantly she's talented and has a bright future ahead of her. We believe she is going to do great things."

Accolades have been pouring in from all the great rock n' roll magazines such as Blender, which says Allen is #1 on their list of 25 Reasons to Love '07. Smile has made the list of the year's best songs in Rolling Stone, Spin and Vibe. She's the critics darling already.

Tour Information

Now she graces MTV's tour and website with free audio downloads, podcasts, and videos. The Discover & Download Tour began February 5 in Los Angeles and wraps up February 18 in Boston.

Remaining Tour Dates:

February 16 - Washington, DC - 9:30 Club

February 18 - Boston, MA - Axis

About Lily Allen

There's a photo of Allen on her MySpace page drinking a bottle of something wino-style from a paper bag. There are many MySpace pages of Allen's; it's very confusing. This is a good place to give a listen to a song called Knock 'Em Out, a singles anthem about what a girl can say when she doesn't want to give out her number to some guy at a nightclub. It's fast, jazzy piano with Allen's cheeky lyrics almost rapped in her British accent. It's "almost rapped" because it's still sung and if anything, is slightly reminiscent of Blondie's Rapture.

Her sound is much like New York singer/pianist Regina Spektor, who has a song out now titled Fidelity which sounds similar to Kate Bush or Tori Amos. Is this an emerging rebirth of the singer/songwriter chick with honesty and attitude? Imagine a double bill of Spektor and Allen.

Sara Churchville :
Wow, she really is everywhere these days. Hopefully she can avoid the seemingly inevitable backlash that this kind of hype brings.

I know...over-exposure on a good artist makes my stomach lurch! Now it's Amy Winehouse everywhere which is making me nervous as well. But truly talented stars can recover from over-exposure. It's the "flavor of the moment" type that drift into the background and never come back. Kelly Clarkson guarded against over-exposure by making careful choices. J.Lo has thankfully toned it down these days and I'm thankful she's back to her Latin roots with "Que Hiciste" right now rather than making another pop/R&B/Hip-Hop single with the Rapper Of The Moment.
