Lily Allen, the British songstress best representative of the MySpace generation, returns in February with follow-up to multi-million seller Alright Still.

On February 10, 2009, Lily Allen will release her sophomore album, It’s Not Me, It’s You on Regal Recordings. The first single from the set will be “The Fear” and Allen plans to promote her new work with an extensive world tour.

It’s Not Me, It’s You

The new CD will feature twelve brand new tracks penned by the 23 year old singer. The album could be described as a reflection of modern life based on how the singer sees the world. Though not a repeat of her breakthrough album, it continues along the same vein according to her recording company.

While often off-centre, hinting on crude, Allen writes and sings controversial lyrics with undertones of dark humor such as “Now I lie here in the wet patch in the middle of the bed, I’m feeling pretty damn hard done by, I’ve spent ages giving head, ” (from "It's Not Fair", a track about a boyfriend who doesn’t make the grade in bed), with biting sweetness. It’s Not Me, It’s You is also slated to include new song “F**k You” about homophobia and "He Wasn't There", a track written about her absent father, British comedian Keith Allen.

Alright Still

Lily Allen shot to world attention with her debut single, the infectious reggae tinted “Smile” which mixed a smooth happy-go-lucky beat with cutting, sardonic lyrics. She followed up that record with “Alfie” a track about her reclusive brother she feared would never get a girlfriend if he continued to mope around the house all day playing videogames, and “LDN” a bicycle tour around the great English capital filled with unsavory imagery. These track helped Alright Still sell over 2.5 million records since its release, making it to gold status in Canada, according to her Canadian distributer.

Since the release of that record, Allen has been busy collaborating with a host of big names including Robbie Williams on his Rudebox album, Dizzee Rascal, Common and uber-producer Mark Ronson who worked extensively with Allen on the bulk of Alright Still. Together Ronson and Allen brought a cover of Kaiser Chiefs’s “Oh My God” into the British top ten, peaking at number 8 from his album of covers, Version.
