Michael Jackson was popular for so many reasons. Although the later part of his career was filled with controversy and court trials, Jackson will always be known as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.
The Beginning and The Jackson 5
Jackson achieved popularity at such a young age with the Jackson 5. The young 10 year old sported the afro and already had his own sense of fashion style. The talented singer however really achieved fame in the later part of the 1970’s. In 1982, Jackson made the hit album, which is still one of the most popular albums in history, “Thriller”.
It wasn’t only the singing that made Michael popular, it was the dancing that has never hit mainstream before Jackson arrived. The robot, the air walk, and the moonwalk were just some of the dance moves that Jackson perfected. Jackson however, was not the first entertainer who performed the famous moonwalk. Bill Bailey and French mime Marcel Marceau performed it as well, however it became Michael’s signature move.
Many of Jackson’s music videos were unique as well, with “Thriller” still being one of the most popular videos in the last 50 years. “Billy Jean” and “Scream” achieved great popularity as well.
Controversy and Child Molestation Charges
However, Michael started becoming famous for all the wrong reasons in 1993. Child molestation charges were developed with accusations by a young 13 year old, Jordan Chandler. Jackson was acquitted of the charges but another charge was ensued in 2005, but Jackson was found not guilty.
Those who knew Michael though said that fatherhood was one of the most important aspects of Jackson’s life. Jackson was often seen with his children and taking them to Disneyland. But the passing of Jackson does not only affect his children but the millions who had listened to his many hits and followed the life of Michael.
Jackson gave new styles of fashion and the fedora hat has since been embraced by many Jackson enthusiasts. The latest news on the legend’s death, is that he was given sedatives, to help him conquer a sever case of insomnia. There was perhaps and overdose of these sedatives, however toxicology reports are still pending.
Michael Jackson did not invent the moon walk, nor pop music, but he revolutionized both and made them what they are today. IT would be unfair to limit Jackson as the “King of Pop” since he touched variety types of music, including some techno beats, hip hop, dance and others. He was the “King of Music”, and he still is.
