Former Idol contestants Brooke White and Carly Smithson are debuting their post-Idol music this summer.

As the season 8 crop of Idols are spending their summer performing in the top venues across the country on tour, the season 7 Idols are making waves by releasing their first batch of post-Idol music.

Brooke White, 5th Place

Earlier this year, White released a new song, Hold Up My Heart. She returned to Idol stage this past season to perform her new single in promotion of her upcoming release, High Hopes and Heartbreak.

On RealBrookeWhite.com, White expresses her thoughts about her time on the Idol stage.

"The show was really big for me," White said. "I felt very small on the show, and I started out a lot more naive about it, which is why I think I was better off in the beginning."

White sometimes struggled on Idol, forgetting the words and needing to re-start her performances, which showed the Idol audience the very real and emotional side to White.

"I'm a very emotional person," White said on RealBrookeWhite.com. "Emotional as in intense, passionate, and I care about everything."

High Hopes and Heartbreak is being released on White's label June Baby Records in conjunction with Fontana Distribution.

"I knew in my mind the type of record I wanted to make, and I think I would have come away feeling disappointed had I let someone else have that much say in the process," White said.

White's High Hopes and Heartbreak is to be released on July 21.

Carly Smithson, 6th Place

Another Idol contestant whose post-Idol music is finally seeing the light of day is Carly Smithson. In June 2009, Irish-born Smithson revealed she had joined up with the original members of the band, Evanesence to form, We Are The Fallen.

Smithson recently was interviewed by CNN.com and spoke about trying to find the right fit to begin her post-Idol career.

"I had a lot of the wrong opportunities approach me. They were very flattering offers, but musically not on the same page with where I envisioned myself," Smithson told CNN.

After Smithson and her new band mates announced their newly formed band, they also announced that the fans would be about to download their new song, Bury Me Alive free of charge from their website WeAreTheFallen.com.

The song has an Evanesence feel to it, but Smithson's voice sets her apart from the other female rockers on the scene.

Smithson told CNN that she doesn't feel the pressure of of her band mate's prior success with Evanesence, because We Are The Fallen is a new band.

Currently, We Are The Fallen is not signed to a record label, but has plans to tour in the fall.

Success Without The Idol Win

Season 7 American Idol winner, David Cook has said many times in interviews that Idol is merely a platform and it is up to each contestant to proceed and use the Idol platform to their advantage.

Both White and Smithson were considered favorites during their time on Idol, and both are took their time to commit to music they believe in, rather than go down a path they didn't identify with.

From fan reaction alone, it seems that White and Smithson have used the platform to their advantage in a positive outlook for their individual, budding careers.
