The second day of the Montreal Virgin Festival was marked by the absence of best selling artist Akon, and the crowd pleasing performance from New Kids On The Block.

As the doors opened on the second day at the Montreal Virgin Festival, there were more spectators on the site than on Friday and also more virgin employees, who it seemed were getting ready preparing for the crowd expected at night.

As the evening fell on the festival, crowds could be heard chanting Akon songs or wearing the old school New Kids On The Block t-shirts. As the organizers expected, an enormous crowd emerged to see the pop legend headliners, New Kids on The Block. There was a visible divide between the spectators that came to see Akon which were younger, and the spectators that came for NKOTB, who were generally older.

The organizers kept pushing the organization, Virgin Unite, which would receive proceeds from the festival but there was a lack of information on the charity for the general spectators. The biggest news on Saturday at the festival, came at around 7:15pm when it was announced that Akon would not be performing.

Canadian Performers at the Montreal Virgin Festival

The second day at the Montreal Virgin Festival featured some great Canadian acts such as Lights, Karl Wolfe, Divine Brown and David Usher. The best set of the night for Canadian talent goes to David Usher and Karl Wolfe who stunned the crowd with their energy and incredible willingness to give a strong performance that played well to the hometown crowd.

LIVE at The Montreal Virgin Festival

LIVE gave an amazing performance that was reminiscent of their earlier years on tour. The band was touring to support the new concert album entitled: Live at the Paradiso. Suite101 were able to speak with LIVE frontman, Ed Kowalczyk, who explained that he was working on a new acoustic solo album.

He was also very excited about being back in Montreal and being part of a great festival.

Akon Canceled His Performance At The Montreal Virgin Festival

Akon canceled his performance at the Montreal Virgin Festival, it was announced on Saturday, just an hour before the artist was supposed to go on stage. The news is not that surprising to Canadian hip-hop fans who have seen their favorite performer not being able to make their scheduled shows in the past due to border restrictions.

Word from the festival officials is that Akon did not make it past the Canadian border. It was announced that the Jabbawockeez would take over Akon`s set before New Kids On The Block came on stage.

New Kids On The Block at The Montreal Virgin Festival

The New Kids on the block gave an incredible set and were the best performers at the festival on Saturday. Their energy could be felt from the start of the show when they involved the crowd with singing the chorus and some special pyrotechnics.

The older crowd got involved and made the show something special. In the middle of their set, Donnie Wahlberg lunged into the crowd and started walking among the fans. He then grabbed a Canadian flag and brought it on stage and gave a strong thank you for all the Canadian fans.

NKOTB gave a great show and did what all artist shouls strive to do in all their concerts, which is to give the fans a unique and unforgettable experience.
