Heather's Hotlist #5

From Paste to American Idol, Here's What I Like This Week

American Idols past and present make it on the list as does my new favorite music magazine.

Katherine McPhee – Over It

It’s good ole pop music in the vein of something like JoJo. The song is light, poppy, well-produced, about love, and sung by a gorgeous songstress. It’s melodic with its vocal hooks and I like that. It gets stuck in my head. This is why we are pop music fans.

Mika - Grace Kelly

As much as I love the song Grace Kelly, the part that sticks with me most is the end where the woman’s voice says, “Humphrey! We’re leaving.”

The Loud.com Battle Rap Competition Has Begun!

If you think you have the skills to pay the bills, they provide the beats and an online multi-track editor. You can’t beat it! Ok, bad joke.

Nickelback Raises $400,000 For Charity With Sales

Nickelback’s song If Everyone Cared has raised $400,000 for two different charities. One-hundred-percent of the proceeds from digital sales of the single are going to Amnesty International and International Children’s Awareness Canada.

American Idol: It’s Safe To Watch Now

Now that the Sanjaya Malakar reign of terror is over, we can eat again and our ears our safe. My ears are very pleased with Jordin Sparks’ performance tonight. Simon told her the song was 60 years old and he thinks she could have a hit record with it. She’s my hometown girl and I really want to see her win the competition, but past contestants have proven you don’t need to win to succeed.

Paste Magazine

I am buying a subscription to Paste Magazine for the sampler CD alone. I bought last month’s issue and this month’s issue, therefore I was listening to sampler 30 until I got sick of it. Today I picked up the new issue and am now intent on digesting all of the music on sampler #31. Bright Eyes, Maria Taylor, Ricky Scaggs…these are just some of my new favorites from #30. This week’s iTunes free single of the week is Life Is Beautiful by Vega4 – also on Paste’s #31.
