New Mims Song: "Like This"

Mims Is Back With Another Dirty South Club Banger

Keeping true to the Dirty South sound, Mims' new song sounds like his last. Oh, and he's not from the South either.

The lyrics are simple and easy to remember, and as I’m quite stressed lately, it works for me to drive around saying, “This is why I’m hot.” It also helped me test out the sound of my rental car quite significantly.

They’ve got a new song out now called Like This. I’m taking my first listen right now as I write this…

After the first few bars, I can say the lyrics make it immediately clear what the song title is referring to:

“If good girls get down on the floor/tell me how low will a black girl go/she’ll probably pick it up, drop it down real slow/or she’s upside down on the pole.”

Yes, it’s that kind of Like This.

Now that I’m to the Like This vocal hook, I can say it’s just as catchy as This Is Why I’m Hot.

Now we have a woman’s voice doing the hook.

You want to listen to it too? How rude of me! Here’s the link so you can listen to it on MySpace:

Now that I’ve gotten most of the way through the song, I think I hear a decent club song here.

Get To Know Shawn Mims

Shawn Mims is from upper Manhattan and both aforementioned songs are on his debut album Music Is My Savior. He comes from the Washington Heights neighborhood near Harlem – an area known for its hustling mentality. And we all know music is a hustler’s game.

Mims got his musical start when his mother bought him some DJ equipment. But before he desired to become an MC, he got most into engineering, producing, and being a good DJ. He lost both parents by age 13; Mims’ dad passed away when he was 11 and his mother died after giving birth to his sister when he was 13-years-old.

Mims worked hard in school getting good grades, but music was meant to be. It was a family connection that hooked him up with DJ Blackout of the Blackout Movement who would later produce This Is Why I’m Hot. This wasn’t Mims’ first song though. That would have been I Did You Wrong, which got regional airplay in 2003.
